Colombian authorities report the seizure of 279 technology components and the arrests of twenty people alleged to be linked to illegal online gambling following raids in the Huila Region this past week.
Gambling authority, Coljuegos, the Colombian Army, and the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office reportedly simultaneously raided 34 establishments suspected of offering illegal online sports betting.
“He who exercises the operation of elements of games of chance and chance in an illegal manner, is committing a crime for which he may incur penalties of 6 to 8 years in prison,” Juan Bautista Perez Hidalgo, President of Coljuegos, cautioned.
In addition to the prospect of jail time, offenders also face hefty fines under Colombian Law.
“The resources collected by Coljuegos are transferred to the health system of Colombians, allowing the financing of the subsidized service of close to one million two hundred thousand people,” Hidalgo went on to say. “That is why all Colombians are asked to play with legal operators, whether it’s in establishments or on online platforms.”
