Indian authorities arrested seven people involved in a cricket betting ring operated through the WhatsApp messaging service today (Sunday).
The arrests included a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party councillor, C S Ravikumar, who represents ward number 29 in the City Municipal Council, the Decclan Herald reports.
The bust, undertaken by the District Crime Intelligence Bureau, netted Rs 1.90 lakh in cash, cheque stubs and mobile devices.
The group, established in 2014, operated across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Mysuru and Sakleshpur.
Punters were recruited via a WhatsApp group and bets were placed online.
The action continues as a number of other suspects are reportedly still under investigation.
