Cricket officials eject bookie spies

A cricket test match in Abu Dhabi between Australia and Pakistan (the Aussies lost) this weekend saw the ejection from the stands of two men who subsequently admitted they worked for unidentified bookmaking firms and were relaying in-play information via cell phones.

The men, believed to be an Indian national and an Emirati with family ties to Pakistan, were questioned by the ICC’s anti-corruption unit, where their links with bookmakers were established before they were expelled from the Zayed International Cricket Stadium.

One man was found to have four phones in his possession.

Officials emphasised that there are no suggestions that any player from Australia or Pakistan acted improperly.
