The Czech Pirate Party (CPS), a political party registered in 2009, has obtained 11 000 signatures on an anti-internet censorship petition it launched earlier this month.
The petition follows an attempt by a junior coalition government member to restrict internet betting on foreign servers, reports Czech news agency CTK.
“The petition demands a law guaranteeing free access to the Internet and browsing without censorship,” said CPS Vice President, Mikuláš Ferjencik.
“The government parties’ long-standing inability to manage well collected financial means cannot be resolved by blocking Internet pages”, added activist Jakub Michalek.
The party has initiated rallies and intends further protest action to highlight the issue.
