Daily fantasy sports market leader DraftKings announced Friday that it is to partner with 27 Major League Baseball teams to further expand into fantasy baseball.
The deal includes exclusive content on the DraftKings iPhone application and integration with Major League Baseball’s At Bat app. The iPhone app will notify players when one of their hitters is coming to bat, and At Bat will open to display a live look-in of the player’s turn at the plate.
DraftKing and MLB contests will feature a fantasy baseball world championship of 80 finalists competing for $4 million worth of prizes on August 15 in Las Vegas, the company announced.
Jason Robins, chief executive of DraftKings, told the Boston Globe: “Baseball is one of the fastest-growing categories in daily fantasy sports. Our MLB partnerships ensure that we will continue to offer the sport’s most engaging fantasy games and experiences.”
The new partners include all MLB teams except the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, who play in states and provinces that prohibit daily fantasy games as a form of gambling, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
