Daily fantasy sport market leaders DraftKings and FanDuel may be hoping that the holiday season brings more fans and competition entry fees to their sites following last week’s numbers from independent monitor SuperLobby, which portrayed a marked slowdown in action since the DFS gambling furore hit the headlines three months ago (see previous reports).
SL reported that overall daily fantasy sports entry fees in guaranteed prize pool competitions sank to $35.5 million, and the monitor puts that figure into perspective by pointing out that before the DFS row surfaced those were the sort of numbers that FanDuel alone used to generate in a week.
On the current numbers, FanDuel generated entry fees of $17.8 million last week, a decline compared to the preceding week but with an improved margin of 10.83 percent. DraftKings GPP entry fees were $17.18 million in the same reporting period, a little better than the preceding week, but the margin was drastically reduced at just under 5 percent (the previous week it was 11 percent).
