The Danish Court of Frederiksberg has ruled in favour of gambling authority, Spillemyndigheden, and ordered internet service providers to block twenty-four domains offering their unlicensed services to the market.
“We are of course very pleased with the court decision”, Birgitte Sand, chief executive of the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA), said. “Once again, we have lived up to our commitment to protect Danish players from illegal gambling.”
The case dates back to September 2017 where Danish telecommunications companies refused to block access on the DGA’s request to the twenty-four unlicensed websites offering both casino services and betting.
Six of the pages are skin betting pages, which have particularly attracted the DGA’s attention, the authority explained, because they typically target players under the age of 18.
The DGA warned it would not hesitate to approach the courts if similar cases arise in the future.
