Danish regulator posts latest gambling stats

The Danish Gaming Authority has released its statistics for the first quarter of 2013 showing that remote gambling take-up has improved compared to Q1-2012, when the market liberalised.

In the last two quarters the GGR for sports betting has increased to a significantly higher level than the three first quarters of 2012, the Authority discloses, revealing that:

* At the end of April 2013 31 licence holders hold 15 licences for betting and 29 licences for online casino activity.

* 11 online casino licensees and 7 betting licensees reported gross gaming revenues (GGR) below DKK 5 million in 2012.

* 7 online casino licensees and 4 betting licensees reported gross gaming revenues above DKK 25 million in 2012.

* In the first quarter 2013, payout ratios were an average 96 percent of turnover at online casinos, and 84 percent in betting.

* Games with commission (ie poker) contributed 25 percent of total GGR.

The Authority broke down online GGR in Q1-2013 as follows:

Betting DKK 370 million (Q1-2012: DKK 285 million)
Online Casino DKK 240 million (Q1-2012: DKK 185 million)
Online poker DKK 55 million (Q1-2012: DKK 55 million)
Total: DKK 610 million (Q1-2012 total: DKK 470 million)

Total remote GGR in FY 2012 reached DKK 2,045 million.

Total gambling GGR across all typoes in 2012 totalled DKK 7,500 million, and the Authority expects this to increase by end 2013 to DKK 7,800 million.

GGR per average Danish player in 2012 was DKK 1,700, a figure that is expected to rise to DKK 1750 by year-end.
