A hacker based in Germany has been sentenced by a Dusseldorf court to a thirty-four month jail sentence for targeting six unidentified online gambling websites in a DDoS extortion scam ahead of the Soccer World Cup 2010.
According to a German news source, the hacker spent $65 on the hire of a botnet before blackmailing online betting sites with the threat of a DDoS attack unless he was paid Euros 2500.
Three sites refused but another three paid a combined total of Euros 5000, reports theregister.co.uk
Following the conviction, the unnamed Frankfurt resident will also have to pay damages of Euro 350 000 along with serving jail time.
