The state of Delaware’s nascent online gambling market is small but growing, judging by the latest numbers from the state lottery regulator.
In February 2014 intrastate online gambling operations recorded gambling win of $166,454, up 13 percent on the preceding month, from 5,689 registered players. The number of registered players increased by 693 players in February, less than the 1,006 recorded in January 2014.
Lottery officials reported that action on internet table games was the main driver of the increased business. The state won nearly three times as much at its virtual blackjack and roulette tables in February than it did in January. The $64,986 won at table games was the result of a 3 percent hold, a 1 percent rise from the preceding month’s hold.
Online slots and video poker delivered a net win of $27,496 on a hold of 4.3 percent – significantly lower than the 7.2 percent hold in January.
Online poker underperformed, with rake falling to $73,971 (January 2014: $88,390).
Of the three racinos operating online gambling sites, Delaware Park’s revenue constituted more than two-thirds of the state’s posted revenue. Dover Downs holds one-quarter of the market, while Harrington holds just 8 percent, according to February results.
