The controversial bid by the Washington DC council to be the first in the United States to legalise online gambling has encountered further delays, reports the Associated Press news agency.
Following political arguments that the public had not been given sufficient opportunity to consider the recently passed law introducing online gambling within the council borders, a pause in the implementation plans by the DC Lottery was called to enable a public consultation process to take place.
DC Lottery chief Buddy Roogow set up a plan for wide presentations across the city wards, but now reports that these forums are being delayed because some residents don’t want them to be held during the summer.
Roogow has consequently pushed the information plan back from mid-August and September, to mid-September running into October.
