An information note published by the Dirección General de Ordenacion del Juego (DGOJ) earlier this week is intended to raise awareness of the prohibition of sports betting by directors, or those directly involved with sports events and entities, including players and referees, to preserve integrity in sport.
The DGOJ reminded those in a privileged position, who may hold any advantage over other bettors, or are in a position to influence the outcome of an event, that they are expressly prohibited from betting.
So-called “insider” betting is punishable by a fine of Euro 100,000, the authority clarified.
