Reports earlier this week that Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev favoured the creation of a new gambling area in Sochi, scene of next year’s Winter Olympics, have now been denied.
The RIA Novosty new agency reports a spokeswoman for Medvedev said Thursday that there has been no proposal to turn Sochi into a gambling zone.
“The prime minister did not put forward the idea of creating a gambling zone in Sochi. The idea was suggested by a member of the banking community,” spokeswoman Natalya Timakova said.
