After months of threats, litigation, legislative action and uncertainty daily fantasy sports is back in New York state, with market leaders DraftKings and FanDuel, along with three other operators, cleared for operations just in time for the football season and the MLB play-offs.
The operators were all approved on temporary permits Monday by the New York Gaming Commission following passage of intrastate legislation declaring legality as a game of skill (see previous reports).
DraftKings CEO Jason Robins boasted: “New Yorkers can play our games right now, and on behalf of everyone at our company, thank you New York and welcome back.”
Yahoo, FantasyDraft and Draft were the other operators who received the green light.
Operators have to pay a $50,000 annual fee and a 15 percent tax on revenue, and must comply with strict regulations on age and operational conduct.
The Gaming Commission said that it has issued temporary operating permits whilst it continues to fine-tune permanent regulations.
Executive Director Robert Williams said: “These temporary permits get companies up and running in New York state while assuring resident players that safeguards are in place.”
