Boston-based sportsbook and daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings is striking back at hackers who assaulted its website early in August and immobilised it for almost half an hour (see previous report).
The operator has secured a court order from a US District Court in Massachusetts that will enable it to subpoena internet service providers in an effort to unmask the anonymous hackers behind the attack.
Media reports indicate that DraftKings has already been in contact with some ISPs and has elicited certain information that may prove helpful,
The company has also requested the assistance of co-location and cloud services provider ColoCrossing, claiming that three-quarters of the August attacks came from this direction.
ColoCrossing revealed that the IP addresses tracked by DraftKings were leased or operated by a Romanian proxy service provider and said the latter would “advise and deal with these issues.”
The subpoena route now open to DraftKings will reportedly strengthen its hand in further requests for assistance, particularly regarding ColoCrossing.
