The Dutch gaming authority Kansspelautoriteit has slapped a Euro 180 000 fine on the directors of (and company) Total E Soft Limited and XKL Limited.
The fine is in response to 14 Dutch-language websites, studied between March 2014 and June 2014, which offered online casino gaming, digital slots, poker and sports betting to Dutch residents.
The authority said all the websites utilised Total E Soft Limited software and linked advertising to XKL Limited, however, Total E Soft Limited said the offer was targeted at players living outside of the Netherlands whose preference was to play in the Dutch language.
Kansspelautoriteit said it believed just blocking the websites was insufficient because both companies consciously took the risk by ignoring the Dutch ban on online gambling.
The companies reportedly have the opportunity to appeal the fine.
