Dutch authorities enforcing the nation’s ban on internet gambling have reported that a call for Apple to remove gambling apps for Dutch players from the App Store has been largely successful.
Quoting official sources, the publication Dutch News notes that to date access by Dutch players to 55 apps has been curtailed following a request from the Dutch Gaming Authority, and that this has prevented an estimated 10,000 downloads of the illegal material by Dutch punters.
The banned apps were apparently not available for Android via Google, the report notes.
Dutch parliamentarians and regulators continue working on a seemingly endless initiative that will see the liberalisation of the Dutch market and the legalisation and regulation of online gambling in 2017-2018.
