The Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit laid out its future priorities this week in a website notification, joining other international regulators in underlining the importance of protecting youth from gambling, and the need for operators to fully embrace responsible gambling precautions against compulsive gamblers.
The regulator will be keeping a close eye on operators and how they market and operate their enterprises in regard to excluding minors and dealing with problem punters, and this will include online gambling operators once the new laws around that sector have been implemented.
The Kansspelautoriteit advisory noted that many online gambling operators, especially offshore businesses, have been contravening under-age betting rules and principles, on some occasions in the full knowledge of wrongdoing.
The regulator did acknowledge, however, that there are those who may have transgressed through ignorance or inattention.
Regardless, it is imperative that all operators fully commit to upholding the law and regulations, the regulator observed, advising that it will be exploring a variety of strategies to address the issues surrounding under-age, problem gambling and consumer protection over the coming two years.
