Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte is focusing on eradicating illegal gambling, signing an executive order that directs law and regulatory agencies to collaborate in ridding the country of unlicensed operators.
“The state condemns the existence of illegal gambling activities as a source of widespread social menace and source of corruption as it has become an influential factor in an individual’s disregard for the value of dignified work, perseverance and thrift,” the order reads.
The order which recognizes the various regulatory authorities within the Philippines (Cagayan Economic Zone Authority, Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority, Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation), reiterates gambling restrictions to Philippine residents as it undergoes the process of regulating the online gambling market to International customers only.
Duterte ordered regulatory and law enforcement bodies to submit reports on their progress in curbing illegal gambling on a six monthly basis.
The executive order is yet to be published on the Philippine Government’s website but can be accessed through Scribd here: https://www.scribd.com/document/338926001/Executive-Order-13#from_embed
