Online and land gambling group William Hill plc had the embarrassing task of apologising to an unknown number of its punters this week for a third party payment provider’s screw-up that resulted in online punters’ accounts being debited twice for the same transactions.
The William Hill letter of apology did not identify the payment provider concerned, referring only to “one of our payment providers”.
This week punters started receiving letters explaining that the payment debacle occurred on bets placed on March 4, and assuring them that the necessary adjustments to address the over-payments are being treated as a matter of urgency and that reimbursement is imminent.
UK media reports alleged that William Hill has declined to comment on how many punters were involved or how much had been over-charged in the error.
