IT engineer jailed for hacking online gambling database

News on 18 Dec 2012

The Irish Independent reports that a Hewlett Packard computer engineer in Dublin has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, one of which is suspended, after pleading guilty to hacking into the business accounts of an unidentified online betting firm, where he illegally accessed sensitive information about a number of well-known French personalities.

Judge Martin Nolan of the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard evidence that Adil Ziani (38) was working for Hewlett Packard in Dublin when he illegally accessed the accounts.

The court heard that the information could have caused the French nationals distress if Ziani had publicly revealed it.
