A controversial bill designed to allow group or “equity” wagering through Nevada bookies has been effectively snuffed out by the Nevada House of Assembly’s Judiciary Committee despite passing through the state Senate on a unanimous vote with just one abstention.
Senate Bill 346 proposed that the Nevada Gaming Commission adopt rules to regulate “entity” bettors in the state, despite reservations that were openly expressed by key members of the state regulator, including chairman AG Burnett.
The failure of the bill to gain any traction at all in the Judiciary Committee means that the measure could be left floating unattended for months, perhaps years.
Sen. Greg Bower, who introduced the bill, appeared to be philosophical about the failure of the measure to progress out of committee in the House, saying: “Maybe we just didn’t have enough time to convince everybody it could work.”
