The Italian regulator’s intention to issue 120 new online gambling licenses last year continues to attract the interest of operators despite the delay in calling for applications to operate in this successful market.
The fact that Italy is reportedly in talks with other European regulators on player pool sharing for online poker has only heightened interest.
Concrete information is not easy to come by, but the license fee will reportedly be Euro 200,000 and taxes will vary depending on the type of game involved: online poker tournament, skill games, fantasy sports, cash card games, casino games, betting exchange and bets on virtual events will attract a rate of 20 percent of GGR, whilst online sports betting will be taxed slightly higher at 22 percent.
Speculation is rife in Italian media regarding the companies likely to apply, but until applications are accepted that aspect remains open to conjecture.
