FanDuel Group has confirmed that its sportsbook app will be available to the US public this week, although for now only persons within the borders of New Jersey will be able to wager with it.
The app has undergone beta testing and a soft launch, and is now ready for launch, media reports indicate.
Publications given review samples of the app report that it offers seven different payment options, future betting lines, and in-game wagering in an easy-to-use format, creating stiff competition for rival DraftKing’s product.
Acquired by Paddy Power Betfair earlier this year FanDuel Group is now part of a billion dollar business with big ambitions in the United States.
Nik Bonaddio, Fanduel’s head of product, told local media that FanDuel’s conservative approach to new legislation, regulatory issues and court decisions meant that the development of the app had to be achieved in just six months in order to be ready for the key NFL season. It therefore lagged the DraftKings equivalent by a month.
Whilst the app has been designed with the US punter in mind, it is powered by Paddy Power technology, and the pricing and betting engines are the same ones used in the European company’s existing sports betting products. FanDuel’s development team worked closely with New Jersey regulators on the project.
