The predominantly online and mobile nature of fantasy sports is about to change following the announcement this week by US-based EagleStrike Fantasy Sports that it is ready to launch a new daily fantasy sports platform offering short-term fantasy sports contests via proprietary Fantasy Sports Terminals located in sports bars, restaurants and fraternal lodges.
Virginia will be the first state to offer the terminals following EagleStrike’s successful registration as a Fantasy Contest Operator in the state, where it will be positioning branded terminals to provide fantasy players an accessible outlet for fantasy contests. The contests range from one day, to one week, and offer cash prizes to winners.
A spokesman for EagleStrike told media outlets this week that the project only allows fantasy players who are physically located at terminals to enter contests, thus removing the unfair advantage experienced DFS players enjoy on online and mobile platforms.
Our readers will recall that in March this year Virginia became the first US state to regulate fantasy sports when Governor Terry McAuliffe signed The Fantasy Contests Act into state law.
Touting the new terminal-based service, EagleStrike’s Adam Flore said in a statement:
“Ensuring prize money stays in Virginia and is paid to fantasy players with similar skill-sets are the pillars of our commitment to fair play.”
He added that providing fair and equitable competitions to players through collaboration with venue owners was a “tremendous privilege” that the company does not take lightly, and pointed out that the terminals represent an opportunity for fantasy sports to access a larger and more diverse demographic.
