The English Premier League football club West Bromwich Albion has announced a one-year fantasy sports deal with Irish app developer Sportego in its first foray into the popular new vertical.
The partnership will launch the WBA Fantasy 5 app on Wednesday, August 26.
Through its FanFeud.co.uk product, Sportego claims it is the first app developer to offer cash-based fantasy football on individual Premier League games.
Baggies supporters will receive a tailor made version of WBA Fantasy 5, which will be available on IOS and Android devices for the 2015/16 season, offering a unique fantasy football game based around the team’s Barclay’s Premier League fixtures.
Fans will be able to play as part of the wider club community in real-time for the chance to win match tickets, as well as being able to compete against friends. This game is the first of a hat-trick of features, along with a predictor game and interactive quiz, which is all fully integrated with social media.
Sportego is expanding the application market into other sporting arenas; in addition to the Baggies deal, the brand also has a client list that includes Munster GAA, Leinster GAA and the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.
Trevor Keane, CEO at Sportego, said that West Bromwich Albion was enthusiastic about the opportunity to strengthen its relationship with its fans, as well as helping to attract more members.
“Sportego and West Bromwich Albion share mutual objectives, therefore we are both very much looking forward to delivering and developing the partnership,” he said Thursday.
George Harborne, head of partnerships at West Bromwich Albion added: “Securing Sportego as our first Official Fantasy Partner is a real coup in what is becoming an increasingly active and competitive market.”
