The Belgian Gaming Commission is at it again, adding five more websites to its online gambling blacklist, including that belonging to BetVictor.
Blacklisting means that Belgian ISPs will be required to block access to the sites by Belgian internet punters.
BetVictor.com, Casinograndluxe.com, Cityclubcasino.com, Monacasino.com and Royalcasino.com join a pretty elite roster of companies that have incurred the displeasure of the Belgian regulator, including top international companies like bet365, William Hill, Betfair, 888 and Betsson.
The list currently blocks 74 websites and counting.
Industry observers comment that blacklisting is not as complete as the regulator would like, pointing out that at best only half the country’s ISPs are cooperating with the Commission.
Nevertheless, being convicted of unlicensed online gambling could be expensive in Belgium; the empowering legislation makes fines of up to Euro 100,000 a day possible for operators and even marketers promoting unlicensed operators, and players are liable for fines of up to Euro 25,000 if they give their business to websites that have not been licensed by the Commission.
