With the new year comes a new legislative season in Florida, and among the first bills to be introduced is SB8, a massive 112-page omnibus measure dealing with a variety of mainly land gambling issues.
Among them, author Sen. Bill Galvano has inserted provisions that seek to resurrect his earlier quest to clarify the legal status of daily fantasy sports in the state.
Galvano again punts the formation of an Office of Amusements within the Department of Business and Professional Regulation with responsibility for the supervision of DFS activity in the state, and provision for initial licence fees of $500,000 and annual re-ups of $100,000. Allowances for lower rates for smaller DFS operators have been suggested.
