French gambling regulator ARJEL has released a general overview of online sports betting during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Twelve licensed sports betting operators in the French market reported generating a total of Euro 34 million in wagers during 3 to 21 August 2016, a 77 percent increase over the Euro 19.2 million wagered on the London Olympics in 2012.
Total gross gaming revenue on Rio was Euro 6.8 million compared to London’s Euro 3.3 million, an increase of 109 percent and a player rate of return of 80 percent, down 3 percent compared to London’s 83 percent.
Tennis emerged the most popular Olympic Sport in terms of wagering (Euro 8.5 million), followed by basketball (Euro 6 million) and football (Euro 5.8 million).
