The publication Sports Intelligence reports that England’s Premier League football clubs have no shortage of sponsorships – with almost half of the 20-club list signed up for shirt sponsorships by gambling companies.
Spending on shirt sponsorship deals has soared, trebling over the past seven seasons from GBP 100.45 million to GBP 226..5 million in 2016 and up at GBP 281.8 million to date. That’s GBP 160 million more than Germany’s Bundesliga clubs receive… and it doesn’t include around an estimated GBP 20 million in revenue from sleeve patch sales by the clubs.
The nine clubs with gambling company deals have benefitted by GBP 47.3 million this season, Sporting Intelligence notes.
Gambling firms that have sponsorship deals with EPL clubs include:
Betway – West Ham
SportPesa – Everton
ManBetX – Crystal Palace
Fun 88 – Newcastle
Le Tou – Swansea
M88 – Bournemouth
Bet365 – Stoke City
Dafabet – Burnley
Ope Sports – Huddersfield.
