US punters will soon be watching a new Fox television comedy series with a light legal touch and a charming central character with flaws that include too great a fondness for gambling and a disorganised approach to money and gambling debt management that makes his personal life something of a shambles.
Screening for the first time this month in the United States, “Rake” features top movie star Greg Kinnear as brilliant but personally undisciplined lawyer Keegan Deane, who frequently finds himself in difficult and often hilarious situations of his own making as he pursues a legal career defending people on a wide range of crimes.
The general theme of “Rake” is based on a popular Australian show of the same name that has been running for the past three years and stars Richard Roxburgh as likeable rogue Rake Cleaver Greene, a smart but self-destructive Sydney-based barrister.
