The prosecution of several Americans charged with operating an online sportsbetting ring in Oneida County, New York entered a new phase this week with a guilty plea by one of the accused, John Swift.
The guilty plea saw Swift avoid 15 felony counts of promoting gambling, which were reduced to five counts of misdemeanour. Sentencing was immediately imposed, fining Swift $500 on each misdemeanour and confiscating $30 000 in gambling proceeds, according to reports on WKTV.
Another man alleged to be a member of the ring, Richard Dorsagno Sr, was also in court, but his attorney secured an adjournment until later this week.
