Germany’s failed licensing process is under the spotlight again as the German Sports Advisory Council has reportedly ended its cooperation with the State of Hessen Ministry of the Interior and Sports.
According to German and European sports betting operator association, Deutsche Sportwettenverband (DSWV), a senior representative of the Sports Advisory Council (SAC) has resigned his job in protest against the Betting policy of the Federal States.
That sports betting licenses have yet to be issued was criticised by the SAC while the unnamed senior representative is said to have recommended as early as 2013 that the limitation on concessions to 20 be waived.
Mathias Dahms, president of the DSWV said in a press statement: “So far, the regulatory chaos has produced only losers in Germany: the State has failed to provide any regulatory control of the market and while willing sportsbooks have been stuck in a licensing process for years, consumers are driven into the arms of black market vendors and German sports is vulnerable to considerable risks such as match-fixing.”
“Of course, we urgently need the expertise of sports organisations when it comes to improving the German Betting regulation, but first we must find a way out of this licensing policy and administration impasse.”
