Global market for US states

News on 25 Mar 2013

The Financial Times reports that US States pushing for online gambling legalisation are intent on linking with foreign countries to develop a global market of regulated gambling jurisdictions, on the back of the Nevada Gaming Commission’s award of a licence to Gibraltar-based 888 Holdings last week.

“Compacts with foreign countries” are a common thread in both Nevada and New Jersey online gaming law provisions which would allow online gambling friendly US States to effectively hook up with established regulated online gaming markets such as the United Kingdom.

Other State bills presently on the boil also include provisions for agreements with “foreign entities” such as Illinois,  who would require greater liquidity and an expansion in the number of potential players – more than its 13 million population could provide – to be viable and attractive to operators in the market.
