It appears from Italian media reports that there has been a good response from applicants for the latest tranche of online gambling licenses, which will be valid through to 2022.
Despite the once-off application fee of Euro 200,000, at least 80 applicants have submitted the necessary documentation and passed the initial scrutiny of regulator Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli.
Among them are successful online operators like Videoslots, Lottomatica, bet365 and PokerStars, along with elements from the land gambling industry interested in entering the online sector.
The reports note that should all of the applicants who have passed the first inspection continue and ultimately receive licensing, there will be 172 licenses issued, including the 47 operators who already have licenses valid through 2022.
