The Greek newspaper Ekathemerini reports that the Greek police cyber-crime unit has ordered the ISP blocking of 23 international gambling websites that it deems to be illegal.
The websites have not been identified by the police but are believed to be active in taking high volumes of World Cup football bets, activity that has triggered official interest and no doubt attracted the attention of the OPAP gambling monopoly.
Police spokesmen claimed that the servers of the sites that have been blocked are located outside Greece in places such as Britain, Belize, Austria, Malta, Panama, Russia and Israel, and that they were breaking the country’s strict gambling laws.
