GVC Holdings plc and MGM Resorts have announced they are to combine in a joint venture which has inked a deal to provide the United Auburn Indian Community in California with retail, online and mobile sports betting technology.
The deal’s provisions are contingent on compliance with relevant laws in the Californian market.
That contingency is crucial in California, which has yet to legalise online poker and casino activity.
The state has also lagged others in legalising sports betting, rendering the Auburn deal speculative at best, but certainly one with significant future potential.
Voicing the tribe’s perspective, Auburn chairman Gene Whitehouse clarified that the tribe wants to be “wants to be well-situated, and this agreement with the national leader in the field does just that.”
