Justifying their action by claiming that the Czech government is censoring the internet with its initiative to ISP-block unlicensed online gambling websites, unknown hackers launched a DDoS assault on the Senate.cz website this week, taking the site down for around 24 hours.
“We hacked Senat.cz because you passed a law to prevent free access to the Internet,” the hackers said in an anonymous statement, according to a report in the local publication Novinky.cz.
The group further threatened to launch more attacks in the future, warning that it would neither forgive nor forget the actions of lawmakers in attacking the freedom of the Internet.
The Senate passed the blocking measure last week following the recommendation of the tactic by the Ministry of Finance as one successfully deployed in other nationally regulated jurisdictions. The approved bill currently awaits only the president’s signature before implementation (see previous reports).
