The last-minute resurrection in the Illinois House of SB7, a gambling expansion bill covering DFS, sports betting and online gambling, has stalled in the Executive Committee.
Our readers may recall that with just days to go before the current legislative session ends, Rep. Robert Rita, who heads the House Gaming Subcommittee, revitalised SB7 – a land casino bill approved 15 months ago by the state Senate – adding amendments to permit sports betting, daily fantasy sports and online gambling.
The amended bill offered little detail and was seen as a placeholder awaiting content from further discussion.
On Monday a hearing for the bill was scheduled, where it apparently failed to progress, with committee members voting 5 vs. 4 against (one more vote would have moved the bill to the House floor for a vote).
There appears to be little likelihood that it will advance before the legislative session ends Thursday this week, although it could come up for discussion later this year.
