Illinois online gambling bill tweaked

News on 15 Mar 2013

Illinois Senate Bill 1739, which seeks to include online gambling in an expansion plan , has been given a crucial tweak by introducer Sen. Terry Link which could make a difference when it comes to “acceptable” applicants for licensing.

The original “bad actor” clause wording, which included a rather sweeping prohibition against any entity that had accepted internet wagers within the last ten years from Americans in contravention of US laws, has been modified to read “…convicted of accepting wagers” etc.

The tweak also applies to applications from providers and suppliers, who were similarly barred, albeit without the 10 year timeframe.
