Online sportsbook supplier NYX Gaming Group has revealed that during the recent Cheltenham horse racing festival its Openbet platform handled 227.16 million account transactions, including 35.64 million sports bets, an increase of 4.5 million, or 13 percent, on 2016.
This year’s event was the most mobile-centric yet, with 76 percent of all bets placed through the channel, while the number of sports bets per minute placed through OpenBet’s platform peaked at 37,000 – up 36 percent on last year, the company revealed.
Last year the OpenBet platform reached peaks of 62,000 bets per minute over the Grand National, and 19,600 bets per second with Sportsbet.com.au during the Melbourne Cup, the highest ever peak via a single operator.
NYX CEO, Matt Davey, commented: “OpenBet has long understood the importance of the Cheltenham Festival to its customers. With an extraordinary number of transactions to handle, it is one of the most critical weeks in the calendar, with no room for downtime.
“The mobile statistics underline the ongoing shift in player behaviour – and the benefits of our commitment to a product-led strategy in delivering technology that supports player needs and delivers the performance OpenBet is known for.”
