Controversial former Disney actor, celebrity YouTuber and influencer Jake Paul has partnered with and is promoting mysterybrand.net to his 17.6 million YouTube subscribers, many of whom are underage.
Mysterybrand.net’s FAQ’s explains its product as “taking Mystery Boxes to the Next Level”. Once purchased, the buyer doesn’t need to wait for delivery but can open the box then and there online. If the buyer doesn’t like what they’ve received they can sell the item back with the touch of a sell button and receive cash back of “up to 80 percent of the cost”.
The company claims items are selected randomly and that all products are exclusively original. “Nobody knows in advance when this or that product falls out,” the FAQ page reads.
Several categories are on offer at different prices. Categories include Tech, Apple Items, Geek, Gamers, Clothes, Girls, Boys. Prices range from $2.49 to $1300.00 and up.
The partnership and its promotion to his vast audience is creating a stir with critics who accuse Paul of encouraging underage gambling.
At the time of publishing, Paul’s 13.46 minute promotional vid, sponsored by MysteryBrand, sees the YouTuber claim to have spent $5,000 on mystery boxes. The video has been viewed 1.5 million times since it flighted three days ago and has been liked by 54,000 viewers.
