An innovative promotional effort from 188BET.com ahead of the British St George’s Day Rugby Union Game between the London Wasps and Bath Rugby which is to be held at Twickenham on Saturday, 23 April has caused quite a buzz this week.
The Isle of Man-licenced, online sportsbook provider is the official partner of the London Wasps and has created an interactive 3D mapping video-game that see’s a group of players from the team take on a huge fire-breathing dragon, found lurking behind the North Stand at Twickenham Stadium.
Wasps players including Simon Shaw, Joe Worsley, Riki Flutey, Serge Betsen, Dave Walder, Rob Webber and Ben Broster were challenged to ‘slay’ dragons against the clock by kicking and throwing rugby balls at an enormous 50ft high video game, projected onto Twickenham’s North Stand.
Fly-half Walder prevailed and as a reward was invited to play one further level, which featured a colossal fire-breathing dragon breaking through the stadium’s North Stand wall this time. Walder commented: “I had no idea what to expect but the size of the dragon floored me, it was simply staggering. The projection looked really life-like and the 3D technology was brilliant. The lads really enjoyed themselves and the project was great fun to be involved with.”
188BET’s initiative aims to support the London Wasps campaign enticing fans to the St George’s Day Game in order to raise money for the four special charities set to benefit from the occasion.
Jeff Baker, Head of Marketing Services at 188BET, said: “188BET is all about innovation and we adopt this approach when considering how we activate all of our sponsorships. We wanted to create something fun and engaging for the players that tested their skill and dovetailed nicely with the St George’s Day Game. 188BET is proud to be a partner of London Wasps and we believe that this interactive 3D mapping video-game is a great example of our innovative and novel approach to sponsorship.”
