The quest for an information technology supplier put out to tender last year by Greek gambling monopoly OPAP has yielded two bids, the company confirmed this week.
In a bid to avoid further criticism that claimed historical favouritism towards Intralot, the company’s current provider whose contract comes to an end mid-2012, OPAP was compelled to call for tenders on the contract.
The selection of a new supplier is critical to OPAP’s future strategy that includes expansion in video lotto and online betting.
Reuters reports that Intralot and GTECH have been named as the final two contenders in the run-up to selection as OPAP announced the exclusion of Scientific Games Corp earlier this year.
OPAP has committed to announcing its final choice of supplier within the next two months.
The gambling monopoly recently agreed a Euro 935 million payment to the Greek Government for an extension on its concession to 2020 and an exclusive licence to operate 35 000 video lotto machines.
