The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and French online gaming regulatory authority ARJEL have entered into an agreement following a meeting held in Lausanne last week that involved 50 representatives from various sporting bodies, regulatory authorities, betting operators, Government officials and Interpol .
The outcome of this the third meeting of the Working Group on Irregular and Illegal Betting in Sport, chaired by IOC President Rogge, saw the approval of a series of measures that include awareness campaign’s, improved monitoring, the analysis and exchange of information as well as the adoption of legislatory and regulatory means geared towards defeating the problem.
The Working Group approved the formation of a monitoring unit, whose mandate will be to follow the progress of the implementation of these recommendations and report on its findings at the next meeting.
