Iowa seantor making a further online gambling legalisation attempt

Iowa state Senator Jeff Danielson is not a man to give up easily. Despite the failure to gain traction of his earlier attempts at online gambling legalisation, he is taking another run at the project, supported by his Democrat counterpart Wally Horn and Republican member Randy Feenstra.

Danielson proposed Iowa Senate Study Bill 1068 this week, a measure that is broadly similar to 2011’s Senate Study Bill 1165 and proposes that Iowa considers establishing requirements for the issuing of Internet gambling licenses.

Study bills are generally used to initially assess political and other reactions to a proposal before it is formally introduced in the Legislature to run the gauntlet of committee stages, debate and voting.

“At a minimum, the requirements shall include security measures to insure the integrity of Internet wagering and technical standards governing the technology used to conduct Internet wagering,” Senate Study Bill 1068 proclaims.

“In addition, the requirements shall, subject to reasonable conditions established by the commission, allow eight persons who have registered with an Internet wagering licensee to engage in Internet wagering with other persons regardless of location to the extent permissible by law.”
