Our readers wondering what happened to the international online poker initiative of the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma had their answer this week in a statement from the tribe advising that the proposed launch date has been postponed to October 15 this year.
The delay is apparently due to negotiations with foreign governments on the real-money product and its licensing and cash processing arrangements.
Readers may recall that after protracted legal struggles with the Oklahoma state government the tribe was finally given the green light to operate a real-money internet poker enterprise serving an international clientele, with servers based on tribal lands in Oklahoma.
The tribe followed that with the launch of a free-to-play site powered by Universal Entertainment Group a little over two months ago as a precursor to an August launch of the real thing…and event that has now been postponed.
UEG does not have a good track record to date in this field – a similar venture with another Oklahoma tribe was abandoned after almost $10 million of investment.
