The Irish Examiner reports the imminent submission of a new gambling law proposal by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan to the Cabinet this week in which a new independent regulator would be established, problem gambling measures implemented and stringent gambling advertising restrictions imposed.
According to the report, gambling firms may be forced to freeze compulsive gambler accounts or pay hefty fines, a casino licensing regime would be implemented and fixed-odd betting terminals banned, should the proposal ever be promulgated.
The Republican Party’s (Fianna Fáil) Gambling Control Bill 2018 will be heard by Ireland’s lower Parliamentary house, Dáil Éireann tomorrow (Wednesday).
