Against a background of political threats to increase Irish taxation on internet gambling operators, William Hill plc’s Gibraltar-based interactive division – William Hill Online – has launched a new Irish internet gambling website.
The new site offers Irish punters an extensive range of betting opportunities on a wide variety of global and local sporting events, a company spokesman said this week, revealing that the firm spent over a year developing the site, with the aim of competing with rivals for a slice of the estimated Euro 1 billion Irish online betting and gaming market.
Working through the new site, William Hill Online will offer Irish punters over 500,000 betting oppotunities every week on a host of events including GAA, football, horse racing, rugby, golf, motor sports, US sports and a wide range of Irish novelty markets.
The site also offers Irish players a diversity of gaming experiences, including bingo, poker, casino, live casino, vegas and slot games, while those who fancy themselves as the next Gordon Gekko can indulge themselves at William Hill Online’s new financial site called ‘Day Trader’.
Mobile betting is a huge growth area for the company, with William Hill Online reporting an 800 percent increase in mobile turnover this year. Irish customers are therefore able to choose from four mobile apps – Mobile sportsbook, Racing App (Racing Post/WilliamHill), Shake-A-Bet and Match predictor.
“We’re really excited about our new Irish venture and we’re confident it will be a huge hit with Irish punters,’ said Tony Kenny, head of international public relations at William Hill, “The site itself took a year to design, develop and test, but all good things take time.”
“We already have around twenty Irish people working for William Hill Online and with further global expansions planned, we’ll be looking for more top quality Irish staff to join our energetic team,” said Kenny.
