Issue of new Italian online gambling licenses imminent?

The subject of additional online gambling licenses in the lucrative Italian market has been hanging around for the past year or more, but media sources with insider informants are predicting that the tenders for 120 new licenses will open next week and last for two months.

The sources have indicated that 40 of the new licenses are already earmarked for existing Italian licence holders, and that the licence fee attached to each new 5-year licence is Euro 200,000.

Applications will be invited from online sports betting, casino, poker, and bingo operators, and their service and technology providers will be required to pass the regulator’s approval process.
